So I have never had a blog before. I read a couple of entries from friends that have this blog and realized how much I would love one. I primarily want to use it to track my theatre exploits. It's my passion and I cannot wait to really go out and perform. I'm studying theatre right now in college and have about 2 years left in school. I love what I'm learning and everyday it's clearer how much I want to do this. So many people ask me why I want to put myself through this. It's the only thing I could possibly do and be happy with my life. I love it too much to simply have it as a hobby.
I was recently asked by a complete stranger why anyone would want to study theatre or pursue it professionally. Their reasoning being that it couldn't possibly be a satisfying career. What gratification can a person possibly get out of performing for an audience that doesn't know the performer personally?
I understand where this person was coming from because it's all I've ever really heard ever since I made the decision to be a theatre major. But the satisfaction comes with the love of the art. My satisfaction comes more from performing well and enjoying every second on stage. I love showing people a story through acting and singing. The thrill of singing and really feeling what the song is about and the thrill of acting like someone completely opposite from me is what I live for. I love exploring new pieces and becoming someone new.
If there was something else that I truly felt passionate about, I would do that in a heart beat. But this is what I feel I'm meant to do. It's a tough business. I've already felt that. But I won't give up on it. Not when everything about theatre feels right.
This is me in a nutshell basically. I'm exited to start this blog.
